The Be-Do-Have model
Do you have a wellness goal?
Have you heard of the Be-Do-Have model?
Usually when we have a goal, we jump straight to “have”.
You might say, “I want to have a healthy, lean and toned body”.
Great! But to actually achieve that goal, you have to start at the first step of the Be-Do-Have model.
The first question to ask yourself is, “Who do I need to be to achieve (have) that goal?”
If your goal is to have a healthy, lean and toned body, for example, and you are currently overweight and in pain, you’re currently being the person who is overweight and in pain. Who would you need to become, if you were to have a healthy, lean and toned body?
To have an unhealthy, overweight and inflamed body, you might need to be the kind of person who is inconsistent with their diet and lifestyle, or doesn’t watch their diet and lifestyle at all.
To have a healthy, lean and toned body, you would need to be disciplined. You’d need to become someone who prioritises health and nutrition. You would need to become someone who makes sacrifices.
The next question is, “What would I need to do, to achieve (have) that goal?”
If you’re overweight and in pain, what do you do to have such a low level of health?
And what do you think someone who is healthy, lean and toned would do to have such a high level of health?
You might eat a lot of sugar, carbs and processed foods each day to have a low level of health. You might not exercise consistently or with the appropriate intensity. You might sleep in often and stay up late watching TV. You might snack lots and drink too much alcohol.
To have a healthy, lean and toned body, you might need to learn what to do to slim down. You might need to start training regularly. You might need to go to bed early and wake up early to start your day with energy.
Once you figure out the first two questions around Be and Do, then Have sorts itself out.
You already know what you want to have. It’s just a matter of becoming the person that already has what you want, and doing the things that you need to do to have what you want.
Be. Do. Have.
So, do you have a wellness goal? Who do you have to be to achieve that goal?
